On day 26 of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) spoke on the chamber floor. He told a story of a federal government employee with a brain tumor whose health insurance had lapsed in October 2018 and that only her employer could get it reinstated. She has not been able to get in touch with her employer to regain her health insurance due to the shutdown.
