On Day 27 of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history over President Trump’s demand for money to build a U.S.-Mexico border wall, the House passed by voice vote a Democratic bill to fund the government through February 28. A few minutes later, Republicans objected to the voice vote, saying they had requested a recorded vote but were not recognized. Following a discussion between House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), the House recessed subject to the call of the chair.

In a 362-53 vote, members also approved a bill seeking to maintain sanctions against three Russian companies, with 136 Republicans voting with all Democrats in favor of the measure. close
