The House Rules Committee met to consider a $12.14 billion supplemental disaster aid bill for recovery from damage due to hurricanes, wildfires, and other 2018 natural disasters. Appropriations Committee Chair Nita Lowey (D-NY) and Ranking Member Kay Granger (R-TX) testified first, and Ms. Lowey was asked by Rules Committee Ranking Member Tom Cole (R-OK) about a continuing resolution (CR) she had attached to the bill earlier in the day that would reopen and fund the government through February 8. Republican committee members said that by doing so, Ms. Lowey had essentially killed the bill, because the Senate was unlikely to take it up if it included the CR, and it would not receive President Trump’s signature. close
