During a news conference on the House Republican legislative agenda, Minority Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) denounced Representative Steve King (R-IA) and his comments on white supremacy, and they spoke about removing him from committee assignments. While Minority Leader McCarthy would not say if Representative King should resign and not run for re-election, Representative Cheney said she agreed with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that Representative King should “find a new line of work.” The two leaders were also joined by Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA). They also spoke about the the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, which had extended 25 days. close
