Special Aging Committee Chair Susan Collins (R-ME) spoke about the affects of the shutdown on low income seniors and the disabled, among others. She urged colleagues to find a solution to the impasse. She was followed by Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), who spoke again about the suffering of federal employees. After Senator Cardin, Appropriations Committee Vice Chair Patrick Leahy (D-VT) spoke about the plight of federal workers and others affected by the closures.
