On day 34 of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-SD) encouraged his Democratic colleagues to support President Trump’s proposal to reopen the government. He was followed by Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), who rebutted some of Senator Thune’s comments and explained the Democratic position.
