The Inter-American Dialogue hosted a discussion on Puerto Rico’s economy and energy infrastructure more than one year after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. Puerto Rico’s secretary of state provided an overview of the island’s recovery progress, but said the government and its people still needed resources in order to rebuild homes and infrastructure, as well as address the island’s financial situation, including tens of billions of dollars in debt dating back decades. Following the secretary’s remarks, a panel discussed the challenges that faced Puerto Rico, and made suggestions for how best to address them. close
