The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing on H.R. 1, a bill on voting rights, campaign finance, and ethics rules. Witnesses included members of several oversight and ethics organizations. Committee Chair Elijah Cummings (D-MD) spoke out about protecting voter rights, saying he would “fight until the death” to make sure every citizen, no matter political affiliation, would have the right to vote. Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-OH) said the legislation was political retribution on President Trump and a way to stifle the free exchange of ideas. close
