Narrated by actor Sidney Poitier, this tribute to civil rights leader Roy Wilkins (1901-1981) was produced by the U.S. Information Agency. Mr. Wilkins was at the forefront of the civil rights movement as head of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) from 1955 to 1977. The film includes scenes of the 1977 NAACP convention, archival film and photographs, and interviews with Wilkins and his NAACP colleagues, Clarence Mitchell and Benjamin Hooks, who reflect on their philosophies and strategies to advance civil rights. close
