NASA held a press conference to announce the end of the mission for its Mars Exploration Rover, Opportunity. The rover arrived on the Martian surface in January 2004 and was declared dead, and its mission complete, in February 2019. The rover outlasted its expected lifespan by more than 14 years and NASA scientists talked during the press conference about the breadth of scientific data they were able to collect via Opportunity. They also talked about NASA’s next research goals on Mars, and took questions from journalists and the public. close
