The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Rehaif v. United States, a case on whether a non-citizen in the U.S. can be prosecuted and convicted if the person did not know they were in the U.S. illegally. U.S. law prohibits a non-citizen “illegally or unlawfully” in the U.S. to be in possession of a gun or ammunition. A lower court ruled against the plaintiff, Hamid Rehaif, affirming his conviction. close
