Naval historian and author Kathleen Broome Williams told the story of George Plante, a Scottish artist who volunteered as a radio operator in the British merchant fleet during World War II and began creating combat art by painting the Battle of the Atlantic. Using images of his work, Williams detailed Plante’s later assignment to collaborate with the U.S. military and produce anti-Nazi propaganda. Williams is the author of Painting War: George Plante’s Combat Art in World War II. close
