Founding of Pasadena

Pasadena’s diverse population can be traced back to the city’s beginnings. The city’s temperate climate attracted many wealthy people from the Midwest and Eastern U.S., filling up its sanitariums and resort hotels. The service industry provided employment opportunities for minority groups. Anuja Navare, archivist at the Pasadena Museum of History, showed items in the Museum’s archives that help tell the story of Pasadena’s beginnings.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2019 LCV Cities Tour” in Pasadena, California, from February 2-8, 2019, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
