Public health experts and officials testified at a hearing on vaccines and preventable outbreaks. Also testifying was an 18-year-old high school student whose parents who did not allow him to receive standard vaccine; however, he decided to get immunized for hepatitis, influenza, and other vaccine-preventable diseases after reaching adulthood. The witnesses talked about the threat of anti-vaccine rhetoric and the recent measles outbreak resulting from pockets of parents in Washington, California, and elsewhere who refused to immunize their children against the once-eradicated disease. close
