U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) officials held a news conference on migration trends. They announced that more than 76,000 migrants crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally in the month of February, a record number that officials say is putting an added strain on the agency and border patrol agents. CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said many of the arrivals come from the Central American “Northern Triangle” region which include Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Other topics included providing medical care to families crossing the border, plans for a new processing center in El Paso, Texas, and the need for bipartisan support in passing comprehensive immigration and border security legislation. close
