John McManus talked about his book, The Dead and Those About to Die: D-Day - The Big Red One at Omaha Beach. He told the story of the U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division, nicknamed “The Big Red One,” and how they were the first combat soldiers to storm the French beaches on June 6th, 1944. The Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Society co-hosted this event in commemoration of D-Day’s 75th anniversary. close
