During World War II, the U.S. Marine Corps recruited Navajo Indians to create a code based on their unwritten Navajo language to help the military communicate their operational plans. In this series of interviews, former Navajo Code Talker Keith Little talked about his early life and service during World World II. Conducted in 2004-2006, the interviews took place at Mr. Little’s home in the Navajo Nation in Arizona and on the Pacific Islands where he served during the war. The video was provided by historian and filmmaker George Colburn, who produced a documentary titled, “Navajo Code Talkers: Journey of Remembrance.” close
