Robert Edgar Jack was a rancher, banker and wool producer who was very active in the development of San Luis Obispo in the late 19th century. A Union Army veteran, he was a political figure who played an important role within the Republican Party. Marilyn Darnell, author of Anything but Dull: The Personal Letters of R.E. Jack, shared his story and the contributions he made to the growth of the city.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2019 LCV Cities Tour” in San Luis Obispo, California, from March 2-6, 2019, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
