Samuel Walker, a former U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission historian and author of Three Mile Island: A Nuclear Crisis in Historical Perspective, talked about the 1979 partial meltdown at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant.

The program began with a “CBS Evening News” 90-second clip from its March 28, 1979, newscast coverage of the nuclear accident. It ended with a 1979 “Saturday Night Live” spoof of the movie The China Syndrome, about a television reporter and her cameraman who discover safety cover-ups at a nuclear power plant. close
