The Olympia was commissioned by the United States Navy in 1895, eventually gaining fame for its role in the victory at Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War. The ship was later chosen to bring the remains of the World War I Unknown Soldier home from France for internment at Arlington National Cemetery on Armistice Day, 1921.
