Tony Horwitz recounted the travels of Frederick Law Olmstead during the lead-up to the Civil War. Olmstead, prior to his career as a famed parks architect, was a reporter for the New York Times. Writing under the nom de plume “Yeoman,” he was assigned by the newspaper to write about life in the South at the time.

Mr. Horwitz died on May 27, 2019, at age 60. close
