The U.S. Institute of Peace held a series of panel discussions on efforts to prevent violent extremism in countries with weak or failing governments. In this portion, speakers included Madeleine Albright, the former secretary of state, who talked about the importance of governments maintaining their social contracts with citizens. The discussions were part of the institute’s release of a white paper outlining ways to counter violent extremism around the globe. close
