Cabinet Office Minister David Lidington took questions from House of Commons members in the absence of Prime Minister Theresa May. The prime minister and other leaders were attending the funeral of journalist Lyra McKee, was was killed on April 18 while reporting on a riot in Londonderry. Minister Lidington and Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry, who filled in for opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, discussed President Trump’s upcoming state visit to the U.K. and the Irish backstop’s implications in a U.S.-U.K. trade deal. Members of Parliament also asked questions about a second Brexit referendum, climate change legislation, and funding for dementia research. close
