At the end of the House legislative day, Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) asked Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) about the schedule for the next week. Mr. Hoyer replied that the House would take up a bill to lower prescription drug costs, ban “junk health plans,” bring generic drugs to market faster, and provide states money to set up health insurance marketplaces under the Affordable Care Act, and another bill that would ban housing, workplace, and public accommodation discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Mr. Scalise then said the disaster funding bill does not include money for “the crisis at the border” and problems with funding for farm programs, and that he hopes the House and Senate can come up with a bipartisan disaster relief bill. The two then disagreed on aid to Puerto Rico in the disaster relief bill, illegal immigration, separating parents and children at the border, the Mueller report, and finding the attorney general in contempt of Congress. close
