Paul Laxalt served as U.S. senator for Nevada from 1974-1987. He would become an influential figure within the national Republican Party and was one of Ronald Reagan’s closest political friends often referred to as "the First Friend". Edan Strekal, archivist at the University of Nevada, Reno, showed items from Senator Laxalt’s political papers.
