Released in December of 1944, “Beachhead to Berlin” was filmed primarily by the U.S. Coast Guard, and produced and distributed by Warner Brothers. The color film documents D-Day preparations and the June 6, 1944, assault on the Normandy beaches of France. The film looks at Operation Overlord from the Coast Guard’s point of view, using the fictionalized story of a chaplain writing a letter home several weeks after the invasion. This film was preserved by the National Archives. close
