President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe held a joint news conference at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo, one of the Japanese government’s two official state guest houses. It was the site of President Trump’s visit to Japan, the first official state visit under Emperor Naruhito, who had taken the throne earlier in the month. Two U.S. and two Japanese journalists were able to ask questions of the two leaders, who had just met over a working lunch in the palace. They talked about their nations' alliance and ongoing trade talks. President Trump also said he was unbothered by recent missile tests executed by North Korea, saying its leader wants to see his country advance economically. close
