The House Homeland Security Committee held a hearing to examine Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening policies and allegations of racial profiling. Among the witnesses were Government Accountability Office (GAO) Homeland Security Acting Director William Russell along with leaders from the Sikh Coalition and the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. Mr. Russell said that between October 2015 and February 2018, TSA received about 3,700 passenger screening-related complaints alleging civil rights and civil liberties violations. In addition, he urged TSA to improve its oversight of behavior detection activities related to profiling. close
