Following a short break, the House Armed Services Committee resumed consideration of the defense authorization bill for fiscal year 2020 before voting it out of committee for consideration by the full House. In this portion, members debated an amendment offered by Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) on prohibiting funds to be used to go to war with Iran unless the president goes to Congress first. Overall, Chair Adam Smith’s budget proposal would authorize approximately $725 billion in discretionary spending for national defense, including $69 billion for the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) program. close
