Among the witnesses were several first responders and survivors suffering from 9/11-related illnesses. Also providing testimony was comedian Jon Stewart, a longtime advocate for 9/11 responders and survivors. Mr. Stewart in his opening statement commented on the small number of the committee’s 41 members in attendance. The Victim Compensation Fund was reauthorized in 2015 but was set to expire in December 2020 without congressional action.
