The Stonewall riots began on June 28, 1969, after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The raid sparked six days of protests considered to be the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ rights movement. The National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, D.C. hosted a panel including an eyewitness to the protests to discuss the legacy of the riots and how treatment of the LGBTQ community has changed over the past 50 years. close
