Washington Post Live held a series of discussions focused on cancer research and treatment with government officials, lawmakers, health care professionals, advocates and patients. Acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Ned Sharpless who is an oncologist spoke first. He focused on existing treatments and the latest on research for future therapies. Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) was also a guest and talked about what Congress is doing to address pediatric cancer and the Trump administration’s interest for additional funding for research and treatments. Actor Scott Foley also participated in the discussion. He talked about his mother’s diagnosis and death from ovarian cancer. close
