Holocaust survivor Halina Yasharoff Peabody recalled her family’s experiences after the Soviet Union’s 1939 invasion of Poland and eventual German occupation. Her father was deported to Siberia, forced to leave behind his wife and children, including an infant daughter. They survived by pretending to be Catholic. This event was part of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s “First Person” series. close
