Cathy Gorn described the National History Day contest held at the University of Maryland, College Park. Then, two seventh grade students from Cleveland, Ohio’s, Birchwood School of Hawken presented a 10-minute performance titled, “Katherine Johnson: A Quiet Triumph in a White Man’s World.” Katherine Johnson is the NASA mathematician who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was featured in the 2016 film Hidden Figures.
