The House passed a resolution condemning President Trump’s comments about four minority members of Congress in which he told them they should “go back” to the countries “from which they came.” Four Republicans voted “yes” with all Democrats and Representative Justin Amash (I-MI). Debate was halted for more than an hour as the parliamentarian reviewed a Republican request that some of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) words be stricken from the record. While the review was happening, Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) abandoned the speaker’s chair after making brief remarks. Members voted against striking those remarks.

Lawmakers also passed a rule for debate on a resolution finding Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with congressional subpoenas relating to the 2020 Census citizenship question.

Representative Al Green (D-TX) filed articles of impeachment against President Trump for a third time. close
