Produced by the Japanese Committee for the Investigation of U.S. War Crimes in Vietnam, this film details a 1966 to 1967 investigation of civilian injuries and deaths caused by U.S. bombing in North Vietnam. The organization was inspired by Alice Herz, a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany who in 1965 at the age of 82 became the first activist in the United States known to self-immolate in protest of the escalating Vietnam War. The documentary debuted on May 2, 1967 at the Bertrand Russell International War Crimes Tribunal in Stockholm, Sweden, and is shown courtesy of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection. close
