Boris Johnson, the former London mayor and British foreign minister, was announced as the new leader of the U.K.'s Conservative Party, setting him up to take over as British Prime Minister on July 24, 2019. The announcement came during a party event at the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre in London. Following the announcement of his win over fellow Conservative member of Parliament Jeremy Hunt, Mr. Johnson delivered brief remarks calling for the party’s unity in addressing a number of political issues for the U.K., including its exit from the European Union. close
