President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron held a press conference at the conclusion of the 2019 G-7 Summit. They talked about their work at the summit on a variety of foreign affairs issues, and President Macron specifically announced that he had brokered a preliminary deal for the U.S. and Iran to meet for discussions over nuclear security. He said he wanted to see President Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sit down within weeks of the summit’s conclusion, and President Trump said he felt good about the potential for some sort of a deal. The meeting would be the first since the U.S. withdrew from the multilateral Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear agreement in 2018. Following their joint news conference, President Trump continued to answer questions from the press on Iran, trade talks with China, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s prospects for brokering a deal for the U.K. to exit the European Union. close
