The Supreme Court heard oral argument in Mathena v. Malvo, a case concerning juvenile life sentences without parole. Lee Malvo was convicted at age 17 for the 2002 deadly sniper shootings in the Washington, D.C., region. He was sentenced to life sentences in both Virginia and Maryland. Since his sentencing, the Supreme Court issued two rulings restricting life sentences without parole for youth homicide offenders. In light of these rulings, Malvo’s legal team argued he should get a re-sentencing hearing in Virginia. close
