The Supreme Court heard oral argument in [Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California], which concerns the legality of President Trump’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The program, which started under President Obama, protected the children of undocumented immigrants from deportation. In September 2017, President Trump announced that he would phase out the program. On June 18, 2020, the Supreme Court ruled ruled 5-4 that President Trump’s rescission of the program was “arbitrary and capricious” and violated federal law. close
