Prime Minister Boris Johnson and many of his fellow Conservative Party members argued the legislation would unfairly tie the Prime Minister’s hands in trying to negotiate with E.U. officials in Brussels. Other lawmakers criticized Prime Minister Johnson’s decision to boot 21 members of his party after they voted in favor of a motion that allowed the bill to be brought up for consideration against the Prime Minister’s wishes. Following the vote, the bill moved on to the House of Lords for further consideration.
