The House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing on U.S. policy in Afghanistan, featuring testimony from two officials from the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development. They talked about the Trump administration’s reasoning behind trimming its support for aid programs to Afghanistan, and answered questions on the administration’s efforts to negotiate a peace deal with militant groups in Afghanistan, including the Taliban. A second panel of experts, including former diplomats, testified on potential outcomes in the region due to changes in U.S. policy toward Afghanistan and its neighbors. close
