The National Press Club hosted a spelling bee competition between journalists and lawmakers. Competing on the journalist team was Alexandra Petri from The Washington Post, Alex Gangitano from The Hill, John Donnelly from CQ Roll Call, Daniella Cheslow from NPR, Zoe Tillman from Buzzfeed, Josh Dawsey from The Washington Post, and Eric Geller from “Politico.” Representing the lawmakers were Representatives Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Don Beyer (D-VA), Katie Hill (D-CA), Jennifer Wexton (D-VA), Deb Haaland (D-NM) and Chris Pappas (D-NH). The first such event was held in 1913 and was reestablished in 2013. close
