Attorneys presented closing statements to the U.K. Supreme Court in Miller v. The Prime Minister, a legal case on whether Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s advice to the Queen on suspending Parliament was justifiable. The appellant, Gina Miller, argued that the prime minister’s decision was an “abuse of power” and went “beyond the proper constitutional limits of the common law.” Critics have claimed the prime minister did so to avoid opposition to his plan on the U.K.'s exit from the European Union, also known as “Brexit.” The British Parliament was scheduled to return on October 14, just a little over two weeks before the U.K. was scheduled to leave the European Union on October 31, 2019. close
