Journalist Mark Obmascik talked about his book, The Storm on Our Shores: One Island, Two Soldiers, and the Forgotten Battle of World War II. On May 11, 1943, 12,500 U.S. soldiers landed on Attu Island, Alaska, in an effort to force out a Japanese army that had occupied the area for almost a year. Fought in the harsh climate and terrain of the Aleutian Islands, the Battle of Attu was one of the bloodiest engagements in the Pacific theater. Mr. Obmascik told the story through the experiences of a Japanese medic and an American officer. The Denver Eclectics hosted this event. close
