Regarded as the worst recorded flood in South Dakota’s history, the 1972 flood would alter the look of Rapid City and help change how the federal government responds to natural disasters. Corey Christianson, administration, exhibits, and curation coordinator at the Journey Museum and Learning Center, talked about the impact the flood had on the city.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2019 LCV Cities Tour” in Rapid City, South Dakota, from September 7-13, 2019, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Midco cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
