Attorney General William Barr spoke about social media and technology companies using end-to-end encryption and the threat it poses to the public. “It’s well past time for some in the tech community to abandon the indefensible posture that a technical solution is not worth exploring and instead turn their considerable talent and ingenuity to developing products that will reconcile good cybersecurity to the imperative of public safety and national security,” said the attorney general. On the same day of Mr. Barr’s remarks, he, along with his counterparts from the United Kingdom and Australia, sent a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg asking the company to delay plans for end-to-end encryption across its messaging services, citing public safety. close
