The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee sponsored a hearing that discussed the results of the Discovery space shuttle mission. Senator Ernest Hollings (D-South Carolina) was the chairman of the committee. Senators expressed their gratitude to the astronauts and their families for their commitment to the Discovery project and said that the space program had come a long way. Admiral Richard Truly, the Associated Administrator for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was among the witnesses who gave testimony. close
