Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar appeared before a House Appropriations subcommittee to testify on President Trump’s fiscal year 2021 budget request. While the secretary fielded questions on a range of issues, the hearing primarily focused on the coronavirus outbreak and the administration’s preparations to respond to a potential U.S. outbreak. Secretary Azar talked about the administration’s $2.5 billion emergency supplemental appropriations request to help prevent and mitigate the virus. He also dismissed news reports that President Trump was considering appointing a coronavirus czar to lead the federal government’s response efforts, saying the current framework was “working extremely well.” close
