Senator Jesse Helms(R-North Carolina), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, spoke to a group of conservative college students attending the National Conservative Student Conference. He discussed the immense federal debt facing the students in the future, introduced his staff to the audience, and responded to questions from members of the audience following his prepared remarks. He also discussed the recent vote in the Senate against his amendment on the patent of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Representative Richard Armey(R-Texas), chairman of the House Republican Conference, followed Senator Helms with a discussion of the conservative perspective on economic issues, including the Clinton administration’s budget plan. close
